Now you have your beautiful hair extensions it's important to look after your investment.
Below are some useful guidlines on getting the best from your hair extensions.
Brushing & Aftercare
After having your extensions fitted you should not wash your hair for 48 hours.
Brushing your hair extensions is a very important part of your aftercare routine. You must always brush your hair in the morning and multiple times a day using a hair extension brush to help tame the hair.
Always use a hair extension brush or a soft bristle brush and hold your hair to support your extensions.
Only use a wide tooth comb on wet hair. Comb the hair in small sections holding the hair, starting at the ends up, not roots to tips. Do not comb over the rings/tapes.
Only wash your hair 2-3 times a week.
Keep your hair extensions well conditioned as they will not benefit from your own natural oils.
At night you should tie your hair back using a soft hair bobble to prevent tangling.
Before washing your hair always brush your hair using a hair extension brush or soft bristle brush to prevent tangles.
Apply your hair extension shampoo/sulphate free shampoo thoroughly all over the scalp and gently massage through into the mid lengths and ends, being careful not to pull the hair.
Do not rub vigorously and take care not to disturb the extensions.
It is important when washing your hair that the water flows in the direction your hair grows and not flip your hair upside down. In the shower is ideal.
Rinse out thoroughly and repeat the process.
Apply your conditioner to the mid length and ends only.
Do not apply to the rings/tapes as this can cause slippage.
You can pick the top section of your own hair up and apply conditioner to this section.
Rinse your hair thoroughly.
A common cause of itching when wearing hair extensions is due to shampoo and conditioner remaining on the hair and scalp after washing.
After washing your hair gently pat and squeeze your hair with a towel to remove excess water. Do not rub vigorously.
Before detangling we advise using a conditioning spray or serum. This will make it easier to comb through.
Comb through wet hair with a wide tooth comb. This must be done carefully making sure you avoid the rings/tapes. Make sure you support the extensions when wet by holding them.
On the lowest heat setting blast off the roots taking care that the rings/tapes are fully dried.
Section off and with the hairdryer direct the heat down the hair shaft. Use a soft round brush or paddle brush. Blow dry the hair section by section beginning at the bottom and working up to the head, being careful not to snag the rings or tapes.
You may want to leave your hair to dry naturally but the roots need to be dried to prevent matting.
Heated straighteners, tongs and rollers can be used to finish the hair but it is advisable to use a heat protection spray to protect your extensions.
Hairspray, gells and serums can be used but avoid the ring/tape areas as that can cause slippage.
